Tip: Improve your online safety with Trustpilot

Image
Yesterday after a scare, my partner decided she needed to get a replacement key fob for her BMW, to replace the one she lost a year ago. A friend at pickleball suggested contacting Car Keys Solutions and before phoning them I decided to check them out. The tip that I followed up on, is if a company web site quotes a fantastic Trustpilot score. Don't rely on that, go onto the Trustpilot web site or app and type in the company name. I did that and was very satisied, so phoned through to make the arrangements. Within 40 minutes (largely due to traffic) the mobile van arrived, with the nicest guy Paul ready to help. Within 20 minutes we had a perfect (look and do) replacement for the BMW at a cost of £175. I think going direct to the dealer would have cost £400/500. By the way, I gave the service we received 5 stars!!! https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/carkeyssolutions.co.uk

Podcast: We are being lied to abour A.I.'s Real Purpose

Image
This is a super interesting podcast, long at over 2 hours but Simon Sinek is worth the effort. I have four lovely granddaughters at university or completing 6th form. As fascinated as I am with AI using it every day, I do worry about the impact it will have on their lives. This episode helped me to understand how important human skills will be in their uncertain future.

The reason why To survive in today's world you need to be digital savvy, and the harsh reality is many seniors struggle in this area. They can often do the basics, but are rapidly being left behind due to the pace of tech change! Seniors often encounter digital challenges due to evolving technology and complex interfaces. Many struggle with unfamiliar devices, online security risks, and rapidly changing platforms. Limited digital literacy can make tasks like online banking, social media, or healthcare access difficult. Additionally, small fonts, touchscreens, and fast-paced updates can create barriers.  It’s a Team Effort I decided coming into 2025 that I wanted to make a difference in this area. I'm delighted that a fellow coach Ingrid Massie feels the same so we have joined forces to create a digital skills 4 seniors improvers programme.  Learning MUST provide a benefit We want to help seniors find joy in the digital world, and in the process learn how to be  Happy ...

Why do you have to put your phone on airplane mode?

Image
Part of an article in May 2025 Travel & Leisure magazine “No, your plane won’t fall out of the sky, and it won’t even mess with the systems on board. However, it does have the potential to mess with the headsets,” explains a pilot and U.S. Army veteran who goes by PerchPoint on TikTok, where his December 2024 viral video explaining airplane mode has already racked up 1.2 million views. He goes on to explain that even if three or four passengers on a Boeing 737 have their phones trying to connect to a cellular network, there’s a potential that the radio waves from their phones can interfere with the radio waves of the cockpit’s headsets.  Because pilots often have limited visibility, they rely on intel they get from the ground via their headsets, especially for take-off and landing (when most aviation-related accidents occur). If cell phone radio waves are interfering with headsets, pilots can usually still hear instructions from the control tower, but the audio could b...

I’ve Finally Gone Over the Edge

Image
I have a Microsoft family subscription which I share with my family. Having used Office in my working life, I continued to use it in retirement. Initially running my small training business, but after I closed that down I continued with my subscription as Microsoft was hard wired into my digital life. However, my web searching belonged to Chrome and I gave Microsoft Edge a wide berth. It’s not that edge didn’t look bad, but why change something that just works. Then I became fascinated with AI and CoPilot in particular. I try them all including the Chinese DeepSeek, but CoPilot still became my go to for AI searches. Then Microsoft integrated CoPilot into their software. Today I was informed Edge has been updated and is now AI powered providing a smarter way to browse. I asked CoPilot if I should switch, and this is the answer. Here are a few reasons why you might want to give the AI-powered Microsoft Edge a whirl: 1. **Performance and Speed:** Edge is optimised for better perfor...

Apple Tip #3 - The Three Screens Makeover

Image
Why its important I often see seniors struggling to find apps on their iPhones. I know what has happened over time, is they have downloaded apps from the App Store for weather, news, games and whatever interested them at the time. The apps end up scattered over multiple pages, so inevitably finding an app results in a lot of swiping right to left. Occasionally I come across someone who creates folders into which they similar apps e.g. weather. This makes accessing apps so much faster and easier to do, a great productivity improvement. This video explains my Three Screen Makeover, but everyone has their own special one based on their needs. Remember the saying 'As little as possible, as much as necessary'. How to set up the Three Screens Makeover A three-screen setup with your most used apps, important widgets, and the App Library is very efficient. Here's a simple, step-by-step guide for seniors to achieve this: Understanding the Goal: We want your iPhone to have only three...
