I’ve Finally Gone Over the Edge

I have a Microsoft family subscription which I share with my family. Having used Office in my working life, I continued to use it in retirement. Initially running my small training business, but after I closed that down I continued with my subscription as Microsoft was hard wired into my digital life. However, my web searching belonged to Chrome and I gave Microsoft Edge a wide berth. It’s not that edge didn’t look bad, but why change something that just works.

Then I became fascinated with AI and CoPilot in particular. I try them all including the Chinese DeepSeek, but CoPilot still became my go to for AI searches. Then Microsoft integrated CoPilot into their software. Today I was informed Edge has been updated and is now AI powered providing a smarter way to browse.

I asked CoPilot if I should switch, and this is the answer.

Here are a few reasons why you might want to give the AI-powered Microsoft Edge a whirl:

1. **Performance and Speed:** Edge is optimised for better performance with faster loading times and efficient memory usage. It’s designed to be nimble and quick, helping you browse without hiccups.

2. **AI Integration:** The latest version of Edge comes with AI enhancements that offer personalised recommendations, help with searching more effectively, and even provide insights directly in your browser. It's like having a smart assistant for your browsing needs.

3. **Enhanced Security:** Microsoft Edge has built-in features to protect your browsing experience, like tracking prevention and Microsoft Defender SmartScreen, which help guard against phishing and malware.

4. **Productivity Tools:** Edge has handy tools like Collections for organizing research, vertical tabs for better tab management, and immersive reader mode for distraction-free reading.

5. **Seamless Integration:** If you're already using Windows and other Microsoft services, Edge offers seamless integration, making it easy to sync across devices and use features like Cortana and Office 365 directly in your browser.

6. **Privacy Focus:** Edge has various privacy settings, including three levels of tracking prevention (Basic, Balanced, and Strict) to give you control over what information is shared with websites.

Remember, switching browsers doesn’t mean you can’t switch back if Edge doesn't meet your expectations. It’s always good to try out new tools and see what works best for you.

Decision Time

I asked the same question of Google's Gemini (bearing in mind Chrome belongs to Google) and it came up with the same arguement for changing to Edge.

Here was the killer summary >>>>>
Ultimately, the decision to switch from Chrome to Edge depends on your individual needs and preferences. If you value AI integration, performance, privacy, and seamless integration with the Microsoft ecosystem, Edge might be a worthwhile option to consider.
